Saturday in the park...
Okay, this probably is so small it doesn't even bear mentioning but I can't help myself, I have to share it anyway.
Sunday, Mother's Day, we were heading to the park. Tim, Quinn and I decided to go to the park with Frankie the dog for a picnic and a little soccer playing when it cooled down at dusk. We made the decision last minute, lazed out and decided to drive through Carl's Jr for fast food for our picnic dinner. We were in the car in the drive through line when I made some comment with the words "saturday in the park" in it. At once both Tim and I broke out into song, the famous "Saturday in the park" by Chicago singing...
Saturday in the park
I think it was the 4th of July
That's all we sang but the inspiration hit us at the exact same time and we sang it together.
All we hear from the back seat from Quinn in a low voice is ...
"Ok, that just freaked me out a little bit..."
Tim and I laughed so hard at the way he delivered the line and I realized at that point that we graduated to the big geeky parents. When did that happen??

“Treat It Like Cheese”

Cambria is a slow paced, laid back town. It is a full of shops, restaurants, wine boutiques and is famous for Moonstone Beach Drive which is a long stretch of road lined with romantic inns across from and set above the beach. It’s definitely a place people go in search

When we arrived, it was a gorgeous clear sunny day at the coast and we were able to experience a lovely sunset. The weekend for us was full of fresh air, poking in and out of shops, experiencin

Another highlight included our Sunday morning stroll, taking in the foggy sites of the ocean with its high tide crashing against the rocks as well as the local residents of the ocean: the
sea lions, pelicans, seagulls and what Tim dubbed as the “slender salt water loons”, not having a clue what they actually were. I think we were a tad over excited because it was our first adult weekend away in 7 years, however, we were positively overjoyed at every single experience, even walking on the wood path along the beach in the mist. We are so thankful we had the opportunity to go. Thank you, Mother Gilmer for taking care of Quinn and the homestead. What a true gift!!

BTW…yes, we were back at the Italian bakery on our way out of town. Yum!

Quinn and The Letter "G"

Okay, it was a normal Wednesday evening. I had just picked up Quinn from preschool and I’m already enjoying the heck out of my conversation with him. We’re discussing his day at school and what he learned that day. We’re sitting in the drive-thru line at Carl’s Jr. and Quinn says, “Mom, can you make a “G” with your head?” Come again? I said, "Do you mean this"? There I sit (usually quite composed) and I stick my neck out and create the shape of the letter "G" with my head using the very top of my crown as if it's the pointer. I didn’t find it to be an easy task but quite comical! He answered ever so serious, “Yes, Mom, like this.” He proceeds to draw a “G” with his head. It's amazing the things you find yourself doing when you become a parent. All I could do was smile really big. This moment is worth being a parent for, folks.

Welcome

Welcome to the family blog. I am Songbird and this blog will be primarily dedicated to keeping you all updated on the family happenings. I've been pretty bad about staying in touch with family and friends that I don't see or talk to often enough because we live far away from each other or just because we are all too horribly, horribly busy and time flies faster and faster every year. Isn't that just the worst cliche but it's true. So it may be a three sentence anecdote about something funny Q said or it could be a detailed account of a family outing completely with comedic delivery and pictures. I'm not sure what you're going to get but you're all copied on this because you mean a great deal to us and we thought you might be interested.
Talk to you soon.
